My name is John George and I started LakesAreaSports to give area fans a reliable daily source for all the sports and recreation activities in the Lakes Area of West Central Minnesota, as well as the professional and college sports our great state has to offer.

Lakes Area Sports covers all the varsity sports for Perham, Frazee and Detroit Lakes High Schools, as well as the many recreational activities that make’s the Lakes Area come alive each summer.

I’ve been an award winning sports journalist and photographer since 1997, and have been covering sports in the Lakes Area since 2000.  I have a background that includes coaching basketball from every level from elementary school to college. 

I was a member of the 1988 Minnesota Class AA State Championship basketball team from Rocori High School, then went on to earn a B.A. degree in American History from St. John’s University in Collegeville. 

I have also coached baseball from little league to men’s amateur ball, and I am on the board of Director’s for the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame, where I also serve as an assistant curator for the museum at the St. Cloud Civic Center.
