Perham swimmers push a tough Park Rapids team

The Perham girl’s swimming and diving team traveled to Park Rapids Thursday night and gave the defending Mid-State Conference champs all they could handle.  The Panthers were able to hang on to a 97-88 win over the Lady Jackets.

“I have never been so happy to lose by 9 points,” Perham head coach Sheri Ressler said.  “Park Rapids is a very tough team and we came so close. “

The meet started with the 200 medley team of Bailey Meyer, Kelsey Kratzke, Sam Salathe and Natalie Murphy winning with a time of 2:00.84.  Later, Murphy, Salathe and Kratzke would team up with Rylie Rothmeyer to win he 200 free relay with a time of 1:48.98.

Rothmeyer would also pick up an individual win, taking 1^st in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:47.97.  She also had a 2^nd place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:13.04.

Kratzke was also an individual winner, taking 1^st in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.92.  She was the runner-up in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2:31.36.

The Lady Jackets other victory came in the 50 free, where Kyra Arneri won with a time of 28.38.

“We had 42 time drops that produced some extremely impressive times for our girls,” Ressler said.  “They're starting to believe and it shows!”

The Lady Jackets will finally have a “home” meet, as they take on Detroit Lakes in a dual meet at the BTD Aquatic Center in the Detroit Lakes CCC on Tuesday, Sept. 27 starting at 6 p.m.
